Built to Solve a Real Problem
matt-e was established in 2013 by a team of experienced engineers and electricians who identified a critical and underserved safety challenge: the growing rollout of EV charging infrastructure was exposing dangerous gaps in how PME (TN-C-S) earthing systems behave when faults occur.
Standard MCBs and RCDs, the traditional backbone of electrical protection, cannot detect a broken PEN conductor fault. When this fault occurs, dangerous voltages can appear across all metallic surfaces in a building or charging station, creating an invisible but deadly hazard.
The team set out to engineer a solution. The result was O-PEN®: a patented electronic system that detects these faults in real time and isolates the supply automatically, without requiring complex, costly earth electrode installations.
Today, matt-e's products are trusted by major Charge Point Operators and electrical contractors across the UK, and the company remains committed to British manufacturing and world-class technical support.
